Roccat launched its range of Elo play helmets with something different for each player s needs. I had the chance to review Elo X Stereo helmets at $ 49.99 and ELO 7.1 Air helmets at $ 99.99. Despite the significant price difference, I have come to the conclusion that these helmets were remarkably similar, with the Elo X Stereo being high at the quality of a $ 100 headset rather than the ELO 7.1 air falling flat. Despite their similarities, these two helmets offer some key differences that you will want to take into account when making your decision, so let s and why there are these two options.

We will examine five criteria with regard to the differences between the Elo X Stereo and ELO 7.1 Air: Comfort, connection method, sound quality, customization options and the overall design of the units themselves.

The two headphones have a fluffy head holder and reinforced with a fine flexible bar. Although ELO 7.1 Air and the Elo X Stereo are of a smaller frame, they can easily extend to even accommodate those with a larger head and provide absolutely perfect coverage without pressure. The headphones themselves are excellent to cover the ears without pinching or pressing. They also have a section in the padding that is more flexible to adapt to the wearing glasses. They are also remarkable by their lightness, to the point of forgetting often that they are worn. So what do they differ in terms of comfort?

The padding of the ELO 7.1 Air is a little softer and more soft. It has a more luxurious sensation and gives the impression of being made of a better quality material, however, there is a compromise. After intensive use of the two headphones, ELO 7.1 Air had a significant heat over time. Although it did not cause sweat or discomfort, Elo X Stereo never had this problem, even after several hours of use. The Elo X Stereo headphones may seem smaller, but they do not make me think cheap . At the end of a long session, these headphones had the impression of naturally finding the best position on my head and were totally discreet for my experience. ELO 7.1 Air, however, showed its softness thanks to a more recognizable contact.

The two options have provided exceptional comfort, but the Elo X Stereo did not give me the slightest hint of heat and it is enough for me to say that it beats the ELO 7.1 air in comfort.

The Elo X Stereo is your Standard Plug-And-Play audio headset. Roccat said it will work for PC, Mobile, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X. The cord itself measures a little more than 1.5 m long and comes with a double extension Audio jack that adds a further extra length and offers a better versatility with access to headphone and microphone port.

ELO 7.1 Air, meanwhile, is entirely wireless. Using a USB connection, the headset holds a full load for about 24 hours and has an automatic shutdown function when no sound goes through the helmet to save the battery. This includes a USB charging cable, however, while connected to load, I could not use the helmet at the same time. The battery life is incredibly impressive and connecting to the USB transmitter has never had any problem. It was also able to transmit at least 20 feet away through the walls before static effects occur.

I really appreciate the longevity and simplicity of ELO 7.1 Air without the need for cables, but the Elo X Stereo is also versatile in its features on multiple devices. The two helmets have their merits, and this is one of the main features to take into account to choose between the two.

The key should really be in the names here: The ELO 7.1 Air headset has a surround sound 2.0 or 7.1. Marketed as a Visual Audio 360, this helmet really offers crystalline and precise sound. I could lose myself in the sound design of a game and say exactly where and how far the objects of my environment were. When it comes to listening to music outside a game, the ELO 7.1 Air is much better when the 2.0 audio output, and it s still there than the Elo X Stereo shines.

The Elo X Stereo has no choice as to its release given its Plug-And-Play nature, but the two helmets have been remarkable in their ability to reach the heights and low roar - even at volumes Low or high - without loss of quality. None of the two headphones had a static effect, jump or any other negative effect. I felt that Elo X Stereo did not quite the same bass punch as Elo 7.1 Air, but it was a difference so minor that it was almost negligible.

With regard to the actual quality of the audio, these two headphones are compatible, but with the multipurpose options of the ELO 7.1 Air and the depth of the audio that you can get by going to 7.1, the ELO 7.1 Air Just just narrow the Elo X Stereo for sound quality.

This one is in a way an unfair category. Part of the cheapest price of Elo X Stereo is that it does exactly what it needs right out of the box, no adjustment, no change, it just does its job and does it admirably. However, ELO 7.1 Air uses the AIMO Roccat application not only to allow you to customize the color of the RGB logos of the headphones, but also to apply a variety of pulse effects and stroboscope. You can also customize and refine your audio as a professional - it even includes integrated voice modulation options, allowing your microphone to change your voice as a man, woman, monster or cartoon by clicking a button.

Game helmets, especially the most expensive, often need the opportunity to customize your audio to offer you the best absolute experience for you, the player. Everyone does not have the same tastes, so a plug-and-play option might not cut it. The type of adjustments you can perform on the ELO 7.1 Air is the same as I usually see on helmets of at least $ 200 and more, but at $ 99.99, you have many opportunities to refine it.

If I went out the two helmets of their box and placed them side by side, you would immediately notice that their design is almost identical. If there were some incredibly minor functional differences, this is practically the same device in the design. The inclined pivot of the earphones allows an even better fit. The headband offers incomparable support and comfort. I can not say that I like the cable that clearly spends from the headband at the headband, but it s a personal preference not to expose them.

Roccat knew exactly what he was doing with Elo 7.1 Air and Elo X Stereo helmets, but what they were both well in their compact and elegant designs, they were also mistaken. The volume wheel on both helmets is far from ideal, but for different reasons. The ELO 7.1 Air has a dial for the volume and for the volume of the microphone, but they are very close to each other, the main volume being awkwardly high in a non-natural position on the left atrium.

The Elo X Stereo is not much better, with only a main volume knob, but a wheel that is so elegant that it is almost at the same level as the surrounding plastic. It can be difficult to say if you have managed to find it and, as such, distract you from what you do: to know, play games.

Normally, in a situation like this, there is a clear winner, however, the quality of the comfort and the audio output is essentially equal between the two. If you do not need to customize your audio and do not mind having a cord, the Elo X Stereo is a versatile and phenomenal headset with the quality I expect from Roccat for an incredibly low price that is a good deal.

ELO 7.1 Air is a dream helmet for professional players at a much more affordable price. Wireless, fully customizable with your own RGB settings and adjusted sound to get exactly what you want. Lightweight, surround 7.1 and incredibly long autonomy. If you launch yourself in streaming or competitive game, it s an absolutely fantastic choice without ruining you.

Is there a winner? no. The Roccat Elo headset range is affordable, high quality and every headset is designed for a particular player type without sacrificing the quality behind a price tag. If there is something you should withdraw from this look side by side on both helmets, it is that Roccat has won its reputation with high quality gaming accessories. The next time you need a helmet or keyboard, I highly recommend to look at Roccat first.
